Texas Southwest
Texas Southwest History The Original Hisory of Texas Southwest-submitted in 1957
by the late Supt. S.A. Jordan-Chairman of the Program Committee
The now Austin District was intitally named,
Luling District in the 80's when the late Bishop T.D. Iglehart appointed Elder Paul Thompson, Sr. District Superintendent.
Duringthe 80's several additional churches from the Austin area joined the district, thus causing Bishop T.D. Iglehart
to change the name from Lullling District to Austin District. Presently, Austin District has the largest number of churches
in Texas Southwest Jurisdiction totaling at 13 pastors and congregations. The district has had five Missionaries served
with Supt. Thompson.
The growth of the work in Texas for the last two generations became so vast in the number
of churches, comprising of between four and five hundred, that the need for more presiding officers became a necessity.
Therefore it was finally decided by the board of Commissioners to approve four bishops to their respective dioceses,
and Texas Southwest being given to our Bishop T.D. Iglehart. A tribute is hereby given to him as a designer
and builder of several State and local edifices. He has contracted and constructed our State Headquarters
Building valued at an estimated cost of 100,000. We have never had a man in the church history of Texas
to go over and beyond him in going forward and carrying us along with him, remembering those who had been forgotten, exemplifying
an humble spirit all the way. No man in the Lone Star State of Texas can equal him in preparedness and
we are proud to have such a competent leader. He is one that the educational and business world can fully
accept because of his great accomplishments and achievements. He has received a well earned Master’s
Degree which helps fit him for master service. Soon
after Bishop Iglehart had been appointed to the Southwest area, he organized new districts, recruited new officers, and advanced
the work steadily. Notwithstanding he encountered some opposition and interference, but through it all
Texas Southwest survived and stood on its feet. Texas Southwest consists of thirteen districts.
Each district held its successful meeting in February.
Soon after, we were called together in March to the State Installation Service. Our bishop was installed
by the Chairman of the Executive National Board, Bishop A.B. McEwen of Memphis, Tennessee. It was the greatest
and most outstanding of its kind ever witnessed, followed by a banquet enjoyed by all. (Free of Charge.)
The April meeting was superb with many workers coming from even the remote parts of our state. Many
great messages were heard. Some of these messages were rated as masterpieces. Souls
were saved and the sick were healed and a lot of good was done. Official pictures were made.
State Supervisor B.J. Crouch, a graduate for the Page Normal, Industrial, and Bible School was present to stir the
women in their work and to give the signal for record progress. She has well earned her position, having
stood second in rank for a number of year, with the head of state in the women’s department.
Yes, Texas Southwest Church of God in Christ has much to be proud of, being in full possession of the spirit of God,
excessive ability, vision, and stamina.
